Answer:

Farmer takes 40 s to move along the boundary. Thus, after 3.5 round farmer will at point C of the field. Thus, after 2 min 20 seconds the displacement of farmer will be equal to 14.14 m north east from initial position

AnswEr :

Given that a farmer starts moving from a corner of a square field and completes one rotation in 40 minutes.

We have to find distance and displacement of farmer in 1 hour 20 minutes.

Here let the side of square field be a m.

Farmer completes one rotation in 40 minutes.

Now total time = 1 hour 20 minutes.

→ Total time = (60 + 20) m

Total time = 80 minutes.

Now number of rotations :-

→ Number of rotations = 80/40

Number of rotations = 2

As the number of rotations is 2, so that means the farmer has come back to its initial position.

As he comes back to its initial position, so displacement will be 0.

Displacement of farmer = 0 and he will be at its initial position after 1 hour 20 mins.

Now total distance :

Distance in 1 round = Perimeter of field

Perimeter of square = 4 × side

Now as he covers 2 rotations :

→ Total distance = 2 × Perimeter

→ Total distance = 2 × 4 × a

Total distance = 8a m

Total distance covered by farmer = 8a meters. [8 times the side of square field]
