A farmer was unhappy because of his low crop yield. He discussed the problem with an agricultural scientist and realised that the soil of his field was either too acidic or too basic. What remedy would you suggest the farmer to neutralise the soil? [HOTS]

ANSWER:-

So, There are two major reasons responsible for this situation

  1. The soil is too acidic- For this the farmer shoul add any basic substance.Like- Baking Powder, etc.
  2. The soil is basic- For this the farmer should add any acidic substance.Ex- Quick lime or slaked lime, etc.

In both the above cases, the neutralization reaction works and when the farmer will add the acidic or basic substance to his soil as per the conditions the effect in the soil will get neutralized and formal will get high yield.
