let the speed of fast train be =xkm/hr ……………(1
speed of slow train =(x-10)km/h…………(2)
time taken by fast train =600/x
time taken by slow train =600/(x-10)
hence, 600/(x-10)/600/x=3km//hr
taking lcm we get
3x^2-30x-6000=0
or,x^2-10x-2000=0
x^2-x(50-40)+2000=0
x^2-50x+40x+2000=0
taking common x,we get
x=50 or -40
x=50km/hr is the speed of fast train.
By putting x=50 in equation 2 we get the speed of slow train =40km/hr.
