Given:

A father has a mass 60kg and the mass of his son is 30kg.

To find:

Ratio of inertia of father to son ?

Calculation:

  • Inertia is a physical quantity which is directly proportional to the mass of an object.

  • I \propto \: m

Now, required ratio is :

 \dfrac{I_{father}}{I_{son}} =  \dfrac{ m_{father}}{ m_{son}}

 \implies \dfrac{I_{father}}{I_{son}} =  \dfrac{ 60}{ 30}

 \implies \dfrac{I_{father}}{I_{son}} =  \dfrac{ 2}{1}

 \implies I_{father} : I_{son}=  2 : 1

So , required ratio is 2 : 1.
