Correct Question : -

A father is 3 times as old as his son. In 10 years time he will be double his son's. Find their present age.

Solution : -

Given,

  • Father's age is 3 times as old as son.
  • After 10 years the father's age will be double as the son's age.

Let the son's age be " x "

The father's age be " 3x "

The equation is

3x + 10 = 2 ( x + 10 )

3x + 10 = 2x + 20

3x - 2x = 20 - 10

\tt \boxed  { \: x \:  =  \: 10 \:  }

Therefore : -

The present age of son is 10.

The present age of father is

3( 10 ) = 30
