so,

father's age = (a+30)years

After 5 years,

age of son after 5 years = (a+5) years

age of father after 5 years = (5+a+30)= (a+35) years

it's said that he will be thrice as old as his son so,

$\bf 3a+15=a+35$

$\bf 3a-a=35-15$

$\bf 2a=20$
