EXPLANATION.

Let the age of son be = x

age of father is 3 times as his son = 3x

To find the present age?.

After 15 years.

=> son age = x + 15

=> age of father = 3x + 15

he will be twice as old as his son.

=> 3x + 15 = 2 ( x + 15 )

=> 3x + 15 = 2x + 30

=> x = 15

Therefore,

son age = x = 15 years.

age of father = 3x = 3 X 15 = 45 years.

Step-by-step explanation:

\bf{\underline{\underline\red{Given:-}}}

  • A father is 3 times as old as his son.

  • After 15 years he will be twice as old as his son

\bf{\underline{\underline\blue{To\:Find:-}}}

  • The present ages of father and son.

\bf{\underline{\underline\green{Solution:-}}}

According to the 1st condition:-

A father is 3times as old as his son

Let the present age of son be x

The present age of father is 3x

According to the 2nd condition:-

After 15 years he will be twice as old as his son

After 15 years:-

Age of son = x + 15

Age of father = 3x + 15

Father becomes twice the age of his son.

→ 3x + 15 = 2( x + 15 )

→ 3x + 15 = 2x + 30

→ 3x - 2x = 30 - 15

→ x = 15

The present age of son = x = 15

Present age of father

= 3x

= 3 × 15

= 45

Therefore:-

The present age of son is 15

The present age of father is 45.
