Easiest way to do do such type of questions is that there is always two cases in them and we just have to change them into two equations.

let's see:)

let the father's age be x

and son's age be y

First Case:-

x=4y

Second Case:-

(x-5)+(y-5)=70

After solving both the equations:-

x=64

y=16

Answer:

Present age of son =16 years

Present age of father =64 years .

Step-by-step explanation:

Given the relation between the ages of a father and his son. We are asked to find their present ages.

From the given information, father's age is four times as old as his son.

Mathematically writing,

let the age of son be x ,

then the age of father =4x.

Five years ago sum of their age was 70 .

Five years ago age of son  =x-5 , age of father 4x-5 .

Therefore

         (4x-5)+(x-5)=70\\\\4x+x-5-5=70\\\\5x-10=70\\\\x=80/5=16

Thus present age of son 16 years

Present age of father 4*16=64 years.

Five years ago age of son 11 years , age of father 59 years and their sum is

11+59=70

Hence the answer.

thank you
