Given:

  • Father is 5 times as old as his son.
  • After 18 years, the father will be twice as old as his son.

To Find:

  • How old is the father at present =?

Solution:

Let assume:

  • Age of father be x.
  • Age of son is x/5.

According to the question,

Here, after 18 years, the father will be twice as old as his son.

So add 18 both sides of equation.

 \sf \implies \: x + 18 = 2( \frac{x}{5} + 18) \\ \\ \sf \implies \: x + 18 = \frac{2x}{5} + 36 \\ \\ \sf \implies \: \frac{3x}{5} = 18 \\ \\ \sf \implies \: x = \frac{18 \times 5}{3} \\ \\ \sf \implies \: x = 30

Therefore, The value of x is 30.

Now,put the value to find the ages of father and son.

  • Age of father = x= 30 years.
  • Age of son = x/5= 30/5=6 years.
