The present ages of son and father is 6 and 30 respectively.

Explanation :-

Given :

  • Father's age = Five times his son's age
  • After 6 years, The age of father will be thrice of his son's age.

To find :

The present ages of father and son.

Solution :

Let the present age of son be x

Therefore, the present age of father be 5x

After 6 years,

Age of son = (x + 6) years

Age of father = (5x + 6) years

According to question,

=> (5x + 6) = 3(x + 6)

=> 5x + 6 = 3x + 18

=> 5x - 3x = 18 - 6

=> 2x = 12

=> x = 12/2

=> x = 6

Hence, the value of x is 6

Now,

The age of son is (x) = 6 years

And the age of father (5x) => 5 × 6 = 30 years

Answer:

let present age of father and son be x and y

x= 5y. eq 1

x+6=3y. eq 2

put eq 1 in 2

then

5y+6=3y

-2y=6

y=-3
