Answer:

Solution:-

Let the present age of the son be 'x' years.

Then father's age will be (x + 30) years

Given : After 12 years, the father will be three times as old as his son. Therefore,

(x + 12)3 = x + 30 + 12

3x + 36 = x + 42

3x - x = 42 - 36

2x = 6

x = 3

The present age of son is 3 years and the present age of the father is 3 + 30 = 33 years.

Answer:

The present ages of son and father are 3 and 33 years respectively.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given:

Father is = 30 years older than his son

After 12 years = Father is thrice the age of his son.

To find :

Their present ages

Solution :

Let the present ages be -

  • Son as x
  • Father as (x + 30)

After 12 years old -

  • Son = (x + 12)
  • Father = (x + 30) + 12

According to the Question -

After 12 years the man will be = 3 times as old as his son

\sf{\longrightarrow} \: (x + 30) + 12 = 3(x + 12) \\  \\ \sf{\longrightarrow} \: x + 42 = 3x + 36 \\  \\ \sf{\longrightarrow} \: 3x - x = 42 - 36 \\  \\ \sf{\longrightarrow} \: 2x = 6 \\  \\ \sf{\longrightarrow} \: x =  \dfrac{6}{2} \\  \\ \sf{\longrightarrow} \: x = 3

Son's present age = 3 years

\rule{300}{1.5}

Value of (x + 30)

\sf{\longrightarrow} \: 3 + 30 \\  \\ \sf{\longrightarrow} \: 33

Father is 33 years old.

\therefore The present ages of son and father are 3 and 33 years respectively.
