Answer:

36 years

Step-by-step explanation:

2 equations and 2 unknowns…

today x is 6 times y

in 4 years time (x + 4) is ( y + 4) x 4

① x = 6y

② x + 4 = 4(y + 4)

③ x + 4 = 4y + 16

sub ① into ③

6y + 4 = 4y + 16

therefore . . .

2y = 12

y = 6

and . . .

x = 6y

so . . .

x = 36

S O L U T I O N :

Let the present age of daughter's be r years & the present age of father's be 6r years .

A/q

\underbrace{\bf{4\:years\:later\::}}

The age of daughter will be = (r+4) years.

The age of father will be = (6r+4) years.

Now;

\mapsto\tt{(6r+4) = 4(r+4)}

\mapsto\tt{6r+4 = 4r + 16}

\mapsto\tt{6r-4r =  16-4}

\mapsto\tt{2r =  12}

\mapsto\tt{r = \cancel{ 12/2}}

\mapsto\bf{r=6\:years}

Thus;

The present age of daughter = r = 6 years .

The present age of father = 6r = (6×6) years = 36 years .
