A father is three time as old as his son. In tweleve years time he will be twice as old as gis son. Find the present age of the father and his son?

Solution :

Let the present age of son be x years.

Then, father's age = 3x years.

After 12 years,

Son's age = ( x + 12 ) years.

Father's age = 2 (3x + 12) years.

Now,

For making the ages of both father and son equal, we will multiply 2 in son's age [ ( x +12 ) years ] rather than multiplying in father's age ( [ ( 3x + 12 ) years ].

↪️ 2( x + 12 ) = ( 3x + 12 )

2x + 24 = 3x + 12

24 - 12 = 3x - 2x

x = 12

Hence, Son's age = 12 years

Father's age = 3 × 12 = 36 years.
