Given :

Father is = three times as old as his son

After 12 Years = he will be twice as old as his son.

To Find :

Their present ages

Solution :

Consider the present ages of -

  • Son as x
  • Father as 3x

Ages after 12 Years -

  • Father = (3x + 12)
  • Son = (x + 12)

According to the Question -

After 12 years, Father's age = Twice the age of Son

\boxed{\sf{(3x+12)=2(x+12)}}

\longrightarrow (3x + 12) = 2(x + 12)

\longrightarrow 3x + 12 = 2x + 24

\longrightarrow 3x - 2x = 24 - 12

\longrightarrow x = 12

Son's present age is 12 years

\rule{300}{1.5}

Value of 3x

\longrightarrow 3 × 12

\longrightarrow 36

Father's age is 36 years.

\therefore The present ages is Son and Father are 12 and 36 respectively.
