Step-by-step explanation:

Let son's present age == S

Father's present age == 3 times son == 3 S

In 12 years,

Son's age == S + 12

Father's age == 3 S + 12

Given, at this time (12 years), father's age is twice son's age

3 S + 12 = 2*(S + 12)

3 S + 12 = 2 S + 24

3 S - 2 S = 24 - 12

S = 12

Present age:

Son's age == 12

Father's age == 36
