Let the present age of son be 'x'.

So, the present age of father will be = 3x

After 12 years age of father will be twice of his son.
So, age of son after 12 years = x + 12

Age of father after 12 years = 3x + 12 or 2(x + 12)

=> 3x + 12 = 2(x + 12)

=> 3x + 12 = 2x + 24

=> 3x - 2x = 24 - 12

=> x = 12

Son's present age = 12 years

Father's present age = 3 × 12 = 36 years
