A father is three times as old as his son. The sum of their ages is 52 years . find the ages of son and father​

let the age of the father be x and son be y

given

x = 3y

x + y = 52

so, 3y + y = 52

4y = 52

y = 13

x = 3×13

= 39

so the age of son is 13

  • Let the age of son be x years

  • And Age of father be 3x years

According to given conditions;

Sum of thier ages = 52 years

➟ Son's age + father's age = 52 years

Putting assuming value in equation

➟ x + 3x = 52 years

➟ 4x = 52 years

➟ x = 52 ÷ 4

➟ x = 13 years

⟴ Hence,

  • Age of son = x = 13 years.

  • Age of father = 3x = 39 years.
