let age of son=A,

then

father's age=3A,

now according to the question, we have

3A+A=52,

4A=52,

then

A=52/4=13,

therefore

son's age = 13 yrs,

father's age=3×13=39 yrs

Let the present age of father be x yrs
And present age of son be y yrs

According to question

x = 3y ------------------(i)

x+y = 52 -----------------(ii)

Substituting the value of x from i into ii

3y+y = 52
=> 4y = 52
=> y = 13 yrs

x = 3y
= 3x13
= 39 yrs

Therefore the present age of father is 39 years and present age of son is 13 years.
