A father n son pushed their car to bring it to the side of road as it had Stalled in the middle of the road. They experienced that although they had to push with all their might initially to move the car, the push required to keep the car rolling was smaller, once the car started rolling. Explain.

static friction. More force is required to overcome static friction. And as soon as the object starts moving, the static reduces drastically. It is due to irregularities, adhesiveness among the materials, etc. Once the force overcomes the static friction, then its much easier to move the object.

The friction after the object starts to move is called kinetic friction.
