Let the age of two children be x and y.

father's present age is 3(x+y).

age of children after 5 years= x+5+y+5

                                        = x+y+10

age of the father after 5 years= 2(x+y+10) or 3(x+y)+5

                        2x+2y+20 = 3x+3y+5

                        2x-3x + 2y-3y= -20+5

                                    -(x+y) = -15

                                     x+y = 15

                  3(x+y) = 3(15)

                            =45

therefore, present age of father is 45.

let....
children's age (sum)=X
then father's age=3x
after 5 years....
3x+5=2(x+5)
3x+5=2x+10
3x-2x=10-5
x=5
father's age =3x
=3(5)
=15 years

frooti120: whst was correct answer? 15 or 45
deva695: 45
