Explanation:

Given A faulty thermometer reads 0.5 degree at the ice point and 105.5 degree at the steam point . Find the correct temperature in Celsius scale when this faulty thermometer reads 52.5 degree Celsius

  • Now relation between both the thermometer is given as
  • C – 0 / 100 – 0 = x – z / y – z
  • Where z is the ice point on new scale and y is the steam point.
  • So z = 0.5 degree Celsius and y = 105.5 degree Celsius and C = 52.5 degree Celsius.
  • So 52.5 / 100 = x – 0.5 / 105.5 – 0.5
  •  So x – 0.5 = 55.125
  • Or x = 55.625 degree Celsius.
