Hello
there are two types of twins identical and non identical twins. I will explain each one seperately.
(i)Identical twins:- After the sperm fuses with the ovum to form zygote in few rare cases the zygote divides into two halves and forms two different clump of cells developing into two embryos and then into two babies. As the same zygote spilts into two these twins gender and physical appearance is exactly same.
(ii) Non identical twins:- In few rare cases both the ovaries ovulate leading to release of two ovaries. So when sperms fuse two sperms fuse with these two ovum and form twins. As these are two different zygotes formed the twins may not have same gender and physical appearance.
Hope this helps!
