In Dettol, Chloroxylenol is the chief ingredient, comprising 4.8% of Dettol's total mixture, with the rest made up by pine oil, isopropanol, castor oil, soap and water.
When we add water to the dettol, micro emulsion occurs. It is a solution where small droplets of the oil gets suspended in the water.
The microemulsion destabilizes releasing the pine oil and castor oil. This leads to turbidity.
Thus a few drops of dettol when added to water the mixture turns turbid
