A few drops of sulphuric acid are added to water before electrolysis. Why ? in very very short answer​

Water is a covalent compound, hence does not ionise.

Pure water is the poor conductor of electricity, but for electrolysis, we need ions hence to make ionised water which is a polar covalent compound need some drops of acid

When acid is mixed with water both acid and water are ionised and conduct electricity and electrolysis is carried out.

To increase the conductivity of water a few drops of sulphuric acid is added . Being a strong acid it can ionize completely to release H+ ions. These H+ ions are responsible for the conduction of electricity.
