Given info : A few number of identical plates are thrown at a wall each of momentum M kgm/s, if they are thrown at wall at rate n plates per min.

To find : The force applied by them in Newton on the wall will be...

solution :

momentum of each plate = M kgm/s

number of plate thrown per min = n

so no of plate thrown per second = n/60

let plates are thrown for time ∆t , so total no of plates = n∆t/60

so total momentum of plates = M × n∆t/60

we know, force is the rate of change in momentum with respect to time.

i.e., F = ∆P/∆t

= (M × n∆t/60)/∆t

= Mn/60

Therefore the force applied by them in Newton on the wall will be Mn/60
