(a) The Bengal economy thrived and progressed is not applicable to the bengal economy.

Explanation:

  • On 12 August 1765, the Mughal emperor appointed the East India Company as  the Diwan of Bengal and apart from the Bihar and Orissa.
  • Diwani Rights were accepted by Robert Clive.  As Diwan, the Company became the chief financial administrator (taxes,  revenue) of the territory under its control.
  • They came as traders and slowly acquired the power of controlling the  administrative powers.  Robert Clive won the battle of Buxar and defeated the Nawabs. This was a  great achievement.
  • The Company needed to structure its revenue resources and administrate the land. It had to be done in a way that would generate enough money to cover the company's rising expenses.
  • The company had become the Diwan, but it still  saw itself primarily as a trader. The effort was to increase the revenue and buy  silk and fine cotton as cheaply as possible.
