A fez, the headgear cap used by the trucks is shaped like the frustum of a cone. If its radius on the open side is 12 cm and radius at the upper base is 5 cm and its slant height is 15 cm, find the area of material used for making it. (???? = 3.14)

Answer: Total material required = 879.64 sq-cm

Solution:

Surface area of the Frustum of cone=
π (R + r) l + π r^2 + π R^2

R = 12 cm at open side,i.e. subtract π R^2

Total surface area = π (R + r) l + π r^2

l = 15 cm

R = 12 cm

r = 5 cm

Total surface area = π ( 12+5) 15 + π (5) ^2

= π 17*15 + π 25

= π (255 + 25)

= π 280

Total material required = 879.64 sq-cm
