When a field is left uncultivated for a while so that soil recovers its fertility, it is generally called as a fallow land.

It is left uncultivated for at least one season so that soil fertility is regained and it becomes fertile enough to support the next crops.

If a land is left uncultivated for some time it is called as the fallow land

as the land is left  as it is the soil will get some time to regain its fertility as there will be seasonal variations , rain and the microorganisms etc present in the soil makes the soil fertile and this soil is much more suitable for the crops to grow
