Consider a triangle ABC, with B as the right angle.
ATQ,
The length of ladder= 13m.    [This is the hypotenuse AC]
& The distance between the building and ladder= 5m    [BC]

We need to find AB i.e. the height of window from the garden.

Using Pythagoras Theorem,
We can say that,
AB^2 + BC^2 = AC^2

Therefore,
AB^2= AC^2- BC^2
AB^2= 13^2 - 5^2
AB^2= 169 - 25
AB^2= 144
AB= 12m Ans.

Answer:

.A firefighter’s ladder of length 13 m was kept at a distance of 5 m from building to reach a window on the building. At what height is the window from the ground?

Solution. 13m

X m

5m

By pythagorus property,

(hypotenuse)² = sum of squares of other two sides

13² = 5² + x²

169 = 25 + x²

x² = 169 – 25 =144

x=√144 = 12

Ans: Height from the ground = 12 m
