A fish taken out of water cannot survive for a longtime why?

because fish don't have lungs like us to breathe air ,it has gills rather than lungs which can breathe in water

It gets necessary oxygen required tolive in, from water through tiny blood vessels spread over the surface area of its gill and not from air. Though some fish can breathe on land takingoxygen from air, most of the fish, whentaken out of water, suffocate and die
