Answer:

________________

Upstream Speed = 2/(20/60) = 6 kmph

Downstream Speed = 2/(15/60) = 8 kmph

Speed of boat = (DS + US)/2 = 14/2 = 7 kmph

Speed of current = (DS - US)/2 = 2/2= 1 kmph

Given :

A fisherman can row 2 km against the stream in 20 minutes and return in 15 minutes .

To Find :

The speed of current .

Solution :

Let , speed of current be v and speed of fisherman be u .

So , using condition 1 .

u-v=\dfrac{2}{\dfrac{20}{60}}\ km/h\\\\u-v=6\ km/h  ...... ( 1 )

Now , using condition 2 .

u+v=\dfrac{2}{\dfrac{15}{60}}\ km/h\\\\u+v=8\ km/h ......( 2 )

Solving equation 1 and 2 , we get :

v=1\ km/h and u=7\ km/h .

Therefore , the speed of current is 1 km/h .
