Given = Flag pole 4 m tall with shadow of 6m  and  building of height 16 m                                                                                         Find = Length of the shadow of the building                                                                                                                                               Solution  =

When shadows are cast by sun which is very far (infinitely), they are parallel and triangles formed by shadow and vertical object are similar.

Therefore height of flagpole and its shadow will be proportional to building, whose height is   h and its shadow.

Hence,

h/16 = 4/6

h        = 4×16/6

h        = 64/6

h        = 10.66666666666667  (or ) 10.67 ( approx)
