Given:-

→ Initial volume = 300 mL

→ Initial temperature = 17°C

→ Initial pressure = 50 cm Hg

→ Final volume = 100 mL

→ Final temperature = 37°C

To find:-

→ Final pressure, when the gas is

transferred into another flask.

Solution:-

Firstly, let's convert the units of temperature and pressure.

Temperature:-

⇒0°C = 273 K

⇒17°C = 273 + 17

⇒290 K [Initial]

⇒37°C = 273 + 37

⇒310 K [Final]

Pressure :-

⇒1 cm Hg = 1/76 atm

⇒50 cm Hg = 50×1/76

⇒0.66 atm

Now, according to Combined Gas Equation :-

PV/T = PV/T

Where :-

P is the initial pressure.

V is the initial volume.

T is the initial temperature.

P is the final pressure.

V is the final volume.

T is the final temperature.

Substituting values, we get :-

⇒0.66×300/290 = P₂×100/310

⇒0.68 = 10P₂/31

⇒P₂ = 0.68×31/10

⇒P₂ = 21.08/10

⇒P₂ = 2.108 atm

Thus, final pressure is 2.108 atm or 160.208 cm Hg .
