Answer:11m

Step-by-step explanation: To solve this sum , we should subtract the area of the carpet from the area of the floor

Area of the floor = length × width = 5×4= 20m

Area of the carpet = a^2 = a×a = 3×3 = 9m (note : in square all sides are equal )

Area of the floor that is not carpeted = 20-9 =11m

Hope this is helpful !

Answer :

  • The area of the floor is not carpeted is 11m²

Given :

  • A floor is 5m long and 4m wide
  • A square carpet of side 3m is laid on the floor

To find :

  • The area of the floor that is not carpeted

Solution :

Now we have to find the rectangular carpeted

Given that ,

  • Length of floor is 5m
  • Breadth of floor is 4m

Now we have to find the Area of floor

  • Area of floor = length × breadth

5 × 4

》20

》20m²

Now we have to find the square carpeted:

Given that ,

  • side of carpet (a) = 3m

As we know that,

  • Area of carpet = a × a

》 3 × 3

》 9

》 9m²

Now we have to find the area of the floor is not carpeted :

  • Area of rectangular carpeted - Area of square carpeted

》20 - 9

》11m²

Hence , The area of the floor is not carpeted is 11m²
