Step-by-step explanation:

Area of rectangle = length x breadth

= 5m x 3m

= 15m^2

area of square = side x side

= 3 x 3

= 9m^2

total area of the floor = 15 + 9 m^2

= 24m^2

Given:-

  • A floor is 5 m long and 4 m wide. A square carpet of sides 3 m is laid on the floor.

To find:-

  • Area of the floor that is not carpeted.

Solution:-

According to the question,

→ Area of floor = l × b

→ 5 × 4

→ 20 m²

★ Side of a carpet = a = 3 m

→ Area of carpet = a × a

→ 3 × 3

→ 9 m²

Now,

→ Area of rectangular carpet - Area of square carpet

→ 20 - 9

11

Hence,

  • the area of the floor that is not carpeted is 11 m².
