A floor is 5 metre long and 4m wide. A square carpet of sides 3 metre is laid on the floor . Find the area of the floor that is not carpeted.

{\huge{\underline{\underline{\sf{\blue{Solution :-}}}}}}

Hence,

Area of the floor = length × breadth (formula)

= 5 m × 4 m = 2 m ^{2}

Area of the square carpet = (side) × (side)

 = 3m \:  \times \:  3m \:  = 9m ^{2}

Area of the floor , that is , not carpeted

= Area of the floor - Area of the square carpet

 = 20 m ^{2}  - 9m ^{2}  = 11m ^{2}
