Question :-

  • A floor is 50 metres long and 40 metres wide. A square carpet of 30 metre side is laid on it. Find the area of the floor not carpeted.

Answer :-

  • The area of the floor which is not carpeted is 1100 m²

Given :-

  • A floor is 50 m long and 40 m wide.
  • A square carpet of side 30 m is laid on it.

To find :-

  • The area of the floor which is not carpeted.

Step-by-step explanation :-

  • In this question, we have to find the area of the floor which is not carpeted. For this, we will first find the area of the floor, then we will find the area of the square carpet. And finally, we will subtract the area of the square carpet from the area of the floor to find the area of the floor not carpeted.

----------------------------

Finding the area of the floor :-

  • The floor is in the shape of a rectangle, since only it's length and breadth is given to us. So we will use the formula required for finding the area of a rectangle.

We know that :-

 \underline{\boxed{\sf Area\: of \:a \:rectangle = Length \times Breadth}}

Here,

  • Length = 50 m.
  • Width = 40 m.

Hence,

 \boxed{\tt Area \:of\: the\: floor = 50 \times 40}

 \overline{\boxed{\tt Area \: of \: the \: floor = 2000 \:m^2}}

----------------------------

Finding the area of the carpet :-

  • The carpet is in the shape of a square as given in the question. So we will use the formula required for finding the area of a square.

We know that :-

 \underline{\boxed{\sf Area \: of \: a \: square = Side \times Side}}

Here,

  • Side = 30 m.

Hence,

 \boxed{\tt Area \: of \:the \:carpet = 30 \times 30}

 \overline{\boxed{\tt Area \: of \: the \: carpet = 900 \: m^2}}

----------------------------

Finding the area of the floor not carpeted :-

  • Area of the floor = 2000 m²
  • Area of the square carpet = 900 m²

Hence, area of the floor which is not carpeted is :-

 \boxed{\bf 2000 - 900}

 \overline{\boxed{\bf 1100 \:m^2}}

Answer :

Length of floor is 5m

Breadth of the floor is 4m

So, ( applying ar. l × b )

ar. of floor =4m×5m=20m2. Side of the carpet is 3m

So, (applying ar. of sq. = side × side (s) )

area of carpet=3m×3m=9m2.

To find the area of the floor that is not carpeted or (uncarpeted) we will (-) minus the ar. of floor from ar. of carpet

area which is not carpeted or( uncarpeted ) =20m2-9m2

=11m2.

Hence,the ans. Is 11m sq.
