Given:

  • A floor is 5m long and 2m 50cm wide.
  • A square carpet of side 3m is laid on the floor.

___________________

To Find:

  • The area of the floor that is not carpeted.

Solution:

Area of floor not carpeted = (Area of floor - Area of square carpet)

(1) Area of floor = Length×Breadth

=⟩ Length = 5m

Breadth = 2m 50cm

Converting 'm' into 'cm'

1m = 100cm

=> 5m = 5×100 = 500cm

=> 2m + 50cm = 2×100

So, Length will be 500cm

Breadth will be 250cm

Area = L× B

=> 500 × 250

=> 1,25,000cm

In 'm'

1cm = 0.01m

=> 1,25,000cm ÷ 100

=> 1250m

Therefore, Area of Floor is 1250m²

(2) Area of Square tile = Side×Side

=⟩ Side = 3m

=> 3 × 3 = 9m

Therefore, Area of Square tile is 9m²

Now,

★ Area of floor - Area of Square tile

=> 1250m² - 9m²

=> 1241m²

Therefore, Area of the floor that is not carpeted is 1241m²

Given:-

  • A floor of 5m long and 2m50cm wide.
  • A carpet in shape of square with side 3m.

To find:-

  • Area of floor which is not carpeted.

Solution:-

We need to find the area of the floor and before that we have to change the cm to m.

 \begin{gathered} \bf  1m = 100cm \\ \bf 1cm =  \frac{1}{100}m \\  \bf 50cm =  \frac{50}{100}m \\  \bf \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:   = 0.5 m \end{gathered}

Now the dimensions of the rectangle are

  • 5m and 2.5m

We know that Area of rectangle is:-

\large\underline{ \boxed{\bf{★Length×Breadth}}}

So

\large\underline{\bf{ \longmapsto5m \times 2.5m}}

\large\underline{\bf{ \implies12.5 {m}^{2} }}

Hence the area of rectangle is 12.5m²

Now we will find area of square.

We know that the area of square is:-

\large\underline{ \boxed{\bf{ ★ side \times side}}}

\large\underline{\bf{ \longmapsto3m \times 3m}}

\large\underline{\bf{ \implies9 {m}^{2} }}

Now we have area of both (the floor and carpet)

We will subtract the area of carpet from the area of floor.

  • 12.5m²-9m²
  • »»»»=3.5m²««««

Henceforth,the area of the remaining floor is 3.5m².
