Given data : A floor is 6m long and 5m wide. A square carpet of side 4m is laid on the floor.

To find : The area of the floor that is not carpeted.

Solution : First we should find the area of the floor then area of the square square carpet and lastly we can find the area of the floor that is not carpeted by subtracting area of the square carpet from area of the floor.

{Since floor is in the shape/form of a rectangle.}

We know that,

→ Area of rectangle = l * b

where, l is the length and b is the breadth of a rectangle.

By plugging the given values in the formula, we get the following results:

→ Area of floor = 6 * 5

→ Area of floor = 30m²

Thus, the area of the floor is 30m².

{Now, since square carpet is in the shape/form of a square.}

We know that,

→ Area of square = a²

where, a is the length of the side of a square.

By plugging the given values in the formula, we get the following results:

→ Area of square carpet = (4)²

→ Area of square carpet = 16m²

Thus, the area of the square carpet is 16m².

Now, the area of the floor that is not carpeted = Area of floor - Area of square carpet

→ Area of the floor that is not carpeted = 30 - 16

→ Area of the floor that is not carpeted = 14m²

Answer : The area of the floor that is not carpeted is 14m².
