area of floor=l x b
                   =7 x 5
                   =35cm^2
area of square carpet=(side)^2
                                  =(4)^2
                                  =16cm^2
area of floor that is not completed =35-16
                                                      =    19cm^2

The area of the floor that is not completed is 19m²

Given:

A floor is 7m long and 5m wide.

A square carpet of side 4m is laid on the floor.

To find:

The area of the floor that is not laid by the carpet.

Solution:

Step 1 of 2:

A floor is 7m long and 5m wide.

Area of the floor = Length × Breadth

Length = 7m

Breadth = 5m

Area of the floor = 7 × 5

Area of the floor = 35m²

Step 2 of 2:

A square carpet of side 4m is laid on the floor.

Area of square = (Side)²

Side = 4m

Area of square carpet = 4²

Area of square carpet = 16m²

The area of the floor that is not completed = 35 - 16

The area of the floor that is not completed = 19m²
