Given info : A fly moves in such a way that it has a displacement of 24 m towards east, 10 m towards north and 4 m vertically upwards.

To find : The magnitude of its displacement is..

Solution : this type of question, I recommend, use vector concept.

case 1 : A fly moves in a such a way that it has a displacement of 24 m towards east,

i.e., S₁ = 24 i

case 2 : then, 10 m towards north.

I.e., S₂ = 10 j

case 3 : and finally 4m vertically upwards.

i.e., S₃ = 4k

now total displacement , S = S₁ + S₂ + S₃

= 24i + 10j + 4k

magnitude of displacement = √(24² + 10² + 4²)

= √(576 + 100 + 16)

= √(692)

= 26.3 m

Therefore the magnitude of its displacement would be 26.3 m.
