in good chain one person has to depend on another person ....it is necessary to depend...that why it consist 3 4 steps or animal's.....

Most of the food chains are short and they rarely contains more than 4 steps.This is because a lot of energy gets lost at each step.After 3 steps very little amount of energy is left for use by living organisms.
