 Here,

  Force applied on the object is 1.2 N.

According the equation F = ma.

  force of 1.2 N must equal to the product of 1.5 kg( m ) and 0.5m/s^2 ( a ).

But, 1.2 ≠ 1.5 x 0.5, it means, there's some friction and a little amount of force is used to overcome that friction.

 apparent force( which looks like acted upon the body ) is 1.5 x 0.5 N

Force by friction = force applied - the apparent force

⇒ Force by friction = 1.2 N - ( 1.5 x 0.5 ) N

               ⇒ 1.2 N - 0.75 N

               ⇒ 0.45 N

 Hence the friction force of 0.45 N is acting on the body.
