A force of 10N produces an acceleration of 5m/s^2 when it acts on one body and 2m/s^2 on another body . If the bodies are tied together and same force is applied, what will be the acceleration produced?

Answer: acceleration is 1.42 metres per second square

Explanation: case i

10N = m1 x 5m/s^2

m1 = 10/5 = 2kg

Case ii

10N = m2 x 2m/s^2

m2 = 10/2 = 5kg

Therefore

10N = (m1+m2)*a

10N = (2+5)*a

a = 10/7 = 1.42m/s^2
