A force of 5N acting on a body A produces an acceleration of 2ms-2 . The same force acting on the body B produces an acceleration of 5ms-2. Find the mass of the bodies A and B. What will be the acceleration produced if both the bodies are tied together and same force(i.e.5N) acts on it?

Given :

Force on body , F = 5 N .

Acceleration on body A , a_A=2\ m/s^2 .

Acceleration on body B , a_B=5\ m/s^2 .

To Find :

The mass of the bodies A and B .

Solution :

We know , force given by :

F = ma

Therefore , m=\dfrac{F}{a}

Mass of body A ,

m_A=\dfrac{5}{2}\ kg\\\\m_A=2.5\ kg

Mass of body B ,

m_B=\dfrac{5}{5}\ kg\\\\m_B=1\ kg

Now , when both the bodies are tied together .

Therefore , total mass , M = 2.5+1 kg = 3.5 kg .

So , acceleration is :

a=\dfrac{5}{3.5}\ m/s^2\\\\a=1.43\ m/s^2

Hence , this is the required solution .
