Using Newton's second law,

\boxed{F = m\times a}

5 = M1 × 2

M1 = 5/2 = 2.5 kg

And

5 = M2 × 5

M2 = 5/5 = 1 kg

Total mass = 1 + 2.5 = 3.5 kg

Now,

Let common acceleration is a,

F = (M1 +M2) ×a

5 = 3.5 × a

a = 5/3.5 =50/35 = 1.42m/s²
