Given :

A force of 5N gives a mass M1 an acceleration of 8m/s^2 and a mass m2 an acceleration of 24m/s^2

To find :

What will be the acceleration when both masses are tied together?

Solution :

from f = ma

5 = m_1 x 8

m = ⅝ kg

m_2 = 5/24kg

Now,

F = (m_1 + m_2)a

a = F/m_1 + m_2

= 5/(⅝ + 5/24)

= (5 x 24)/20

= 6m/s²
