A force of 5N produces an acceleration of 8 m/s2

on a mass m1 and an acceleration

of 24 m/s2

on a mass m2. These two masses are tied together, and the combined mass is

accelerated at a rate of 6 m/s2

what would be the force acted on the combined mass?

Answer:

F=ma

case 1

5=m1x 8

m1= 5/8

case 2

5=m2x 24

m2 = 5/24

case 3

F=(m1+m2) xa

a= F/(m1+m2)

=5/(5/8+5/24)

=6m/s2

Answer:

m1 = 5/8 kg

m2= 5/24 kg

Total mass= 20/24 kg

F=ma

20/24× 6

=20/4

= 5 N
