A force of 6N gives a mass m1 an acceleration of 18 m/s2

and a mass m2 an acceleration of 24 m/s2

. What acceleration would it give if both the masses were tied together????

ANSWER

The acceleration produced will be 6m/s2

EXPLAINATION

FOR THE FIRST BODY

F= 5N
Mass = m1
a= 8m/s2
Now, F= ma
So, 5= m1 × 8
So, m1 = 5/8 kg

FOR SECOND BODY

F = 5N
Mass = m2
a = 24m/s
Now, F= ma
So, 5= m2 × 24
So, m2 = 5/24 kg

COMBINED MASS OF BOTH BODIES , m1+m2 = 5/8 + 5/24
= (15 + 4 ) / 24
= 20/24 kg
Now, m= 20/24 kg
F = 5N and a= ?
F = ma
So, 5 = 20/24 × a
So, a = 5 × 20/24
So, a = 6 m/s2

THUS THE ACCELERATION PRODUCED WILL BE 6m/s2
