A force of 80 newton acts on an area of 9 cm square. Now due to some reason, force is increased by 4percent and area decreased by 2percent.Then what will be the increase or decrease in new pressure

Answer:Pressure will increase

Explanation: There are 2 ways of  going about the answer :

I. Pressure = Force / Area , that is , Pressure is inversely proportional to Area on which the force is acting. If the Area decreases and force is constant,  then Pressure will increase.   Here ,  Force is increased and Area is decreased . Since Force is directly proportional to Pressure,  when Force increases Pressure will also increase.

II. The other way is through calculations.   First take second situation,

Force(2) = 80 +( (4/100)80)

= 80 + (4/5 × 4)

= 80 + 16/5

= (400+16)/5

= 416/5

= 83.2

Area(2) = 9/100 - ((2/100)(9/100))

= 9/100 - (18/10000)

= (900 - 18)/10000

= 882/10000

= 0.088

Pressure(2) = 83.2/0.088

= (83200/1000) ÷ (88/1000)

= 83200/1000 ×1000/88

= 83200/88

= 945.454

Now,  compare it with the first  situation  Force(1) = 80

Area(1) = 0.09

Pressure(1) = 80/0.09

= 888.888

Since Pressure(1) < Pressure(2)

This shows that Pressure has increased.
